Shops flooded in Wealdstone High Street after water main bursts

Firefighters protected other buildings with sandbags, and urged people to avoid the area

Around 10 shops have been affected by a water pipe burst in Wealdstone, Harrow

hops in a London high street were inundated with about a foot of water after a mains pipe burst on Wednesday morning.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to flooding in Wealdstone High Street, Harrow, around 6.30am.

Around 10 shops have been affected by flood water, in the area from Locket Road to Masons Avenue.

Road closures were in place on Wednesday morning, and the fire brigade urged people to avoid the area.

Firefighters used sandbags to protect further properties from damage, and worked to divert flood water, which issued from a burst 24-inch water main.

Station Commander Chris Swallow said on Wednesday morning: "There are road closures in place between Ellen Webb Drive and College Avenue whilst firefighters work with partners to make the scene safe.

"Traffic is building up this morning and we urge people to avoid the area where possible."

Fire crews from Harrow, Stanmore and Northolt fire stations were at the scene until around 10.45am.
